Spring is a drug
A white rabbit sprints across the barely frozen lake
Fissures of warmth cracking the ice
A squirrel secrets paper up a tree
Her tail bushy nest lining in waiting
Spring is a drug
Making creatures dance out of the last hold of winter
While green is yet a secret
With this drug in my veins
I can taste the first shoots of verdant freshness
Infused with sunlight the cells of my body dance
The trees are still bare
But with this drug in my veins
I see the green shoots about to burst
The grass is still the golden honey of winter
But with this drug in my brain
I see rolling fields of green
There are not yet flowers budding up from the melting ground
But my mind’s eye paints them there all the same
And the sun bursts over the horizon
Alive, like the sound of music
A white rabbit sprints across the barely frozen lake
Fissures of warmth cracking the ice
A squirrel secrets paper up a tree
Her tail bushy nest lining in waiting
Spring is a drug
Making creatures dance out of the last hold of winter
While green is yet a secret
With this drug in my veins
I can taste the first shoots of verdant freshness
Infused with sunlight the cells of my body dance
The trees are still bare
But with this drug in my veins

The grass is still the golden honey of winter
But with this drug in my brain
